THE PROJECT
Autoavanza, a vehicle-backed loan product by Nacional Monte de Piedad, required a redesign to simplify and enhance the user experience. The goal was to streamline the simulation and appointment scheduling process, reducing it from a complex multi-path flow to a single, intuitive journey that would allow users to complete the process in under 3 minutes.
THE OBJECTIVE
The main challenge was to simplify the existing flow, which was originally divided into four paths: car with collateral, car without collateral, motorcycle with collateral, and motorcycle without collateral. The objective was to merge these into a single, unified process, making it easier for users to simulate their loan options and schedule an appointment regardless of whether they were using a car or motorcycle.

In Autoavanza, the vehicle (car or motorcycle) always serves as the collateral for the loan, but users have two options: they can either continue driving it with a GPS installed or leave it with Nacional Monte de Piedad. This redesign needed to ensure that the flow was straightforward for users, regardless of which option they chose.
CREATIVE PROCESS
1
User Research & Interviews.
Conducted in-depth interviews with users to understand their current perceptions and pain points. This helped us identify the need for extended repayment terms and the importance of reframing the product language from “pawn” to “vehicle-backed loan” to better resonate with potential clients.
2
Flow Simplification.
The original flow was complex and divided into four distinct paths. The redesigned process focused on creating a unified flow that catered to all users, whether they chose to keep driving their vehicle with a GPS installed or leave it with Nacional Monte de Piedad, ensuring that the auto or motorcycle was always treated as the loan’s collateral.
3
Redesign & Prototyping.
The team created prototypes of the new simplified flow, focusing on reducing the number of steps and making the experience intuitive. This included refining the information input process for vehicle and personal details, ensuring a smooth transition from simulation to appointment scheduling.
4
Testing & Iteration.
Multiple rounds of user testing were conducted to refine the flow and ensure that users could simulate their loan and schedule an appointment in under 3 minutes, achieving the project’s primary objective.
THE SOLUTION

The final product design resulted in:

  • A single, streamlined flow for both car and motorcycle loans, eliminating the need for users to choose between multiple paths and reducing confusion.
  • Simplified input forms that allowed users to quickly enter vehicle information, select loan conditions, and schedule their appointment efficiently.
  • An extended repayment plan option that allowed users to repay their loan over 24 months, making the product more accessible and financially flexible.
  • Clearer language and messaging that emphasized “vehicle-backed loan” instead of “pawn,” aligning with users’ preferences and perceptions.
  • Flexibility in collateral options, making it clear that users could either continue driving their vehicle with a GPS installed or leave it with Nacional Monte de Piedad, without affecting the loan process.
FINAL IMPACT
The redesigned flow significantly improved the user experience, reducing the time required to complete the simulation and appointment scheduling process to less than 3 minutes. This not only made Autoavanza more accessible but also positioned Nacional Monte de Piedad as a more user-friendly and modern financial service provider, catering to the evolving needs of its clients.
